Writings of a Sinner

For all sin and fall short of the glory of God

Month: February, 2016

You think you’re sly.

Hidden in the shadows.

Tucked under my subconscious.

Mirrored glass hasn’t fooled me.

But it has.

You crept up when I was comfortable.

And you fucking bit me.

Your venomous fangs slipped in into numbed skin.

Under my radar.

I had no time to prepare.

No guard to be set.

The coldness presses through my veins.

Blood like molasses.

I’m stunned.

I’m moving and talking in slow motion.

You think you’re sly.

Hidden in the shadows.

Well you are.

The shadows look mysterious in the moment but they’re not.

With a blink here and a quick slip back into reality there, all charm and excitement fades away.

You see the dirty glasses, you smell the mold in the vents, and you’re reminded that you knew this all along.

You made a mental note as you stepped over the thick protruding demarcation line separating right from wrong.

Now you’ve had your fun, but it didn’t last.

There was no depth in the sensation to be had down here.

But you knew that fact all along.

In fact, you’ve shaken your head at the poor souls who fell for the same trap that your sitting in now.

You find yourself in no man’s land sitting in front of a mirror that shows your jagged teeth and your addicted eyes.

Breath it away and be swept back to safety.

To comfort.

To that eternal euphoria

To home.

Tender is the Flame

Tender is the flame that licks at your heels.

It kisses your skin and singes the your heart.

Unscathed is no option here in the fire.

But you find the pain much worse when you’ve been apart.

Foggy windows hold

Thoughts and hearts from unknown friends

I find mine wiped clean

It’s Nothing.¬†

Let me love you forever.

But you’re shaking your head.

Did I say love?

I meant kiss.

Why don’t you hold out your hand.

It’s but a gesture of friendship.

Its meaningless.

Forget I asked.

See you tomorrow.

There’s a tightness in the air.

A slight hitch in the breath.

As we stare into the face of a friend and we realize.

A little slip in the step.

Three beats too many in a minute.

As we wait for a answer to our invitation and we realize.

As we see their eyes flick left under pressure.

As we trace back the heat of our single sided conversations and we realize…

That they were never going to be there for you.

That they had no intention of answering your call.

That they weren’t the one who was going to pick you up off the ground.

Realize that the ones who care are not standing in your fantasy.

They’re not the owners of the feet you’re kissing.

They’re not the authors of your heartache.

It’s humbling.

And you realize.
