You Wonder

You stick your hand into the flame because it’s warm

And you wonder why you’re burned.

You run into the dark with your eyes closed

And you wonder why you can’t see.

You look for love at the bottom of the lake

And you wonder why you’re drowning in loneliness.

All you want is a heart to beat against your ear,

A woman who seeks His Holy light,

A shelter from your own storm.

But you’re standing in the thick of it

And you wonder why you’re drenched.

You’re running uphill dragging all your baggage with you

And you wonder why you’re tired.
